The 2010 Edition FIFA/CIES/NMMU Students Celebrate in Style

Monday, 3 October 2011 saw 20 happy and excited FIFA/CIES/NMMU Sport Management students receive their qualifications at a distinguished certificate presentation ceremony that took place in the NMMU conference centre.

Russell Domingo, the newly appointed SA Proteas Cricket Assistant Coach presented the keynote address in which he encouraged the students to conduct their work with honesty and integrity and to serve their sport for the betterment of the sport and not for their own personal interests.

Mr Vincent Monnier, the Senior Manager for international relations at the CIES congratulated the students on their achievement and encouraged them to remain active participants in the CIES International University Network.

Mr Solomon Mudege, an alumnus of this qualification and now representing FIFA, also conveyed his and FIFA’s congratulations to the students.

Professor Piet Naude, the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic addressed the students on behalf of the NMMU.

The final speaker for the evening was Mr Godwin Nwafor who represented the graduating class. Godwin thanked the NMMU, CIES and FIFA for the opportunity afforded the students and recounted some of the fond memories the students had of the programme.

At the initiative of Godwin and in a wonderful display of UBUNTU, the class contributed to the travel and accommodation costs of their classmate Antoniu, who lives in Austria, so that he could be present at the function.

Six students completed the qualification with distinction, namely Antoniu Geormaneanu with an academic average of 87%, Kurt Rensburg and Sithembiso Mkhize with 76% and Godwin Nwafor, Johnny Isaacs and Samantha Woolard with an average of 75%.

We wish the new FIFA/CIES/NMMU alumni everything of the very best for their futures and congratulate them on their fine achievement.
