The 40th ACVV sports day for the elderly took place on the 15 August at the Madibaz Indoor Sports Centre.  Established in 1904, the ACVV, formerly known as the Afrikaanse Christelike Vrouevereniging, is the oldest welfare organisation in South Africa. It initially was an Afrikaner-centred and conservative women's organizations. While the modern ACVV is multicultural and seeks to render comprehensive social welfare services to those in need.

The Human Movement Science department has been involved in these games since its inception, 40 years ago. This year’ games brought together over 150 elderly persons from the Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding districts. There were 17 teams represented on the day, with most teams being from different ACVV and Algoa Bay Council for the Aged (ABCA) homes. The ACVV PE West were responsible for organising the games. The sports day included four games, spread out to different sections of the Madibaz Indoor Sports Centre. The games played; included target throwing, ball passing, bucket throw and shoot for goals, all being in the spirit of fun. There were individual, and team awards up for grabs. The students were tasked with selecting sportsman and sportswoman of the day and the team with the best spirit. Special recognition was also given to Mrs Retha Van Der Merwe for her contribution and involvement with the sports day. The day was a success with everyone having a pleasant and none of which would have been possible without the hard work of the HMSV 390 students.
