The 3rd block week of lectures for the 20111 edition FIFA/CIES/NMMU Sport management students were held during the Easter student recess period from 2 to 7 April 2012. In this week the students completed the Sport Communication module under the expert guidance of Ms Debbie Derry and then started the Financial Management module with Mr Gavin Hustler.

The week also saw two international speakers addressing the students.

Omar Ongaro, Head of the Players Status and Governance Department at FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland, spoke to the students about player agents and the FIFA regulations pertaining to such agents. The Department which Omar heads at FIFA is responsible for all players’ status matters, including players’ agents, and forms the liaison between the Players’ Status Department and the Transfer Matching System as far as legal, regulations-related issues are concerned.

Dr Vladimir Borkovic who lives and works in Belgrade, Serbia and Darmstadt, Germany, addressed the students on social development through football with specific reference to the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup in South Africa. Vladimir is a founding member, research director and current Chief Operations Officer of the streefootballworld network. This network serves as a centre of expertise in the field of development through football in a number of countries across the globe, including South Africa.

Both speakers were exceptionally well received by the students.
