The NMMU Soccer Charity Cup is an annual tournament that is organised by the university’s third year sport management students in the Department of Human Movement Science.

The three main objectives of the tournament are to help in the development of school soccer, giving back to the community and providing a practical learning opportunity for the third year sport management students.

The third year sport management students have chosen the Lukhanyo Educare Centre, situated in Booysen Park as the charity that will benefit from the earning of the tournament. The centre is a registered NPO that not only cares for 250 children but also runs HIV/AIDS programmes, dispenses TB medication and also runs a soup kitchen. On the 17th of April 2012 the heads of the organising committee went on a second visit to the centre to hand over food that they have been collecting as a class for the past few weeks.

The tournament will take place on the 25 and 26th of May 2012 at the NMMU South Campus soccer fields. Invited school teams (u/16 and u/19) respectively, will compete in a round robin format with 8 teams per age group, for the crown of being the NMMU Soccer Charity Cup champions.
