Eastern Cape Academy of Sport

The Eastern Cape Acedemy of Sport (ECAS) is housed within the Human Movement Science & Sport Management Department buildings on the Nelson Mandela University Summerstrand South Campus. With ninety athletes in seventeen sporting codes, ECAS aims to assist in the preparation of gifted athletes in order to meet the demands of national and inter-national competition. The Human Movement Science & Sport Management Department is a service co-ordinator and provider and offers services in areas such as biokinetics, physiotherapy, sport psychology, athlete nutrition and life skills. 

Biokinetics Association of South Africa

This is the official website of the Biokinetics Association of South Africa. Packed with in-depth information of the profession and the scope of practice, this website is a useful tool for students and interested persons who want to know more about biokinetics. The website's forum allows you to put questions to qualified biokinetists from across the globe about the profession and its different procedures.There is also a list of service providers across South Africa, on which our very own Pierre Olivier (a final year D. Phil in HMS student) is mentioned. 

Health Professions Council of South Africa

The Health Professions Council of South Africa is the professional body which registers biokineticists. Together with its member bodies such as the Biokinetics Association of South Africa, HPCSA strives to promote the good health and wellness of the South African population and certifies health professional within the country. The website contains information on the different registration criteria and fees, health-related Acts, health statistics as well as the required ethics and professional conduct of health professionals.

Sport & Recreation South Africa

Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) is the governmental department responsible for sport and recreation throughout South Africa. The main aim of SRSA is the growth of sport participation on the grassroots level, including school sport. In order to ensure mass participation in sport, SRSA co-operates with various stakeholders in sport such as the individual sport federations and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic training Committee (SASCOC). The SRCA website has various teaching aids and the latest information on research, education and training within South African sport. 

American College of Sports Medicine  

"ACSM advances and integrates scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine". ASCM guidelines are widely used in exercise prescription and some of these useful tips and norms are available to be downloaded free-of-charge. The website contains iinformation which is aimed at increasing public awareness and education about the benefits of exercise and an active life. The online publications and brochures are very revelant, and include tips on how select and effectively use exercise equipment.
